Walking the city
The correct way to do Pujo, and the only one that scales. Ten kilometres a day, and worth every one of them.

Why walking wins
Pujo is a pedestrian festival. The pandals are in the lanes, the food is on the pavement, the crowd is on foot, and the roads exist mainly to be crossed. Anything with wheels is a way of getting to the walk rather than a substitute for it.
Ten kilometres in a full day is normal and fifteen is not unusual. That is a real amount of walking on hard uneven surfaces, and it is the reason the shoes advice in the what-to-wear guide is not padding.
The one-way pedestrian plan
Around the major pujas, the police set a walking direction — not just for traffic, for people. Barricades channel the crowd along a route in and a different route out, sometimes for several blocks in each direction.
The practical consequence: the shortest line between two pandals on a map is frequently not walkable, and the planner's distance on this site is a distance rather than an instruction. If a barricade sends you round, go round.
Where walking is best
North Kolkata, comfortably. The paras are dense, the lanes are old and narrow, and the pujas sit close enough together that an evening from Shyambazar to Hedua covers a great deal without transport.
Then Bhowanipore and the Gariahat–Ballygunge crossing in the south, both of which pack a lot into a small radius. Block-organised areas like Salt Lake and Dum Dum Park walk well within a sector and badly between them.
The walking-route guides on this site are built for exactly this: one neighbourhood, only the pujas whose positions are confirmed, sequenced by the Route Planner.
The 70 pujas on this guide
Every puja with a confirmed coordinate in North & Central Kolkata — the zone that rewards walking most, and the only ones the planner can draw a real walking distance between.
Every one of these has a confirmed position, so the Route Planner can order them and draw the walk between them.

Traffic restrictions and one-way plans
For five days the city's road network is rewritten. Understanding the shape of the plan matters more than memorising any part of it.
What to wear
October in Kolkata is warm and humid, you will walk ten kilometres, and you will take your shoes off eleven times. Plan for that first.
Durga Puja in North & Central Kolkata
The North & Central zone holds 71 of the 296 pujas this site lists, across twelve neighbourhoods. What the zone is like, and the complete list.
Written by Pujo Kolkata. Pandal listings come from the PujoKolkata master dataset, with coordinates from the IndianOil–Kolkata Police Puja Guide and from community-curated puja maps of the city. Nothing here publishes a 2026 theme, a timing or a crowd level for any puja, because none has been announced. Browse every pandal.
